TRUSTe Privacy Certification Standards is a set of principles, guidelines, and requirements that helps companies protect the privacy of their customers' personal information.

The TRUSTe Privacy Certification Standards are based on the Fair Information Practices, a concept developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce in 1973. The Fair Information Practices have been endorsed by the European Union and many other countries around the world.

The TRUSTe Privacy Certification Standards are designed to help all businesses protect consumer privacy rights online. The standards were developed by TRUSTe, an independent non-profit organization dedicated to helping consumers understand how their personal information is used online.

The Seven Principles of TRUSTe Privacy Certification Standards

  • Notice - Consumers must be notified about data collection practices
  • Choice - Consumers must be given choices about how data is collected and used
  • Security - Data should be securely maintained and disclosed only under limited circumstances
  • Accessibility - Consumers must be able to review and correct the information collected about them
  • Transparency - Businesses should provide complete transparency about their data handling practices, including policies for handling any breaches or violations of their policy
  • Accessibility - Businesses should provide consumers with mechanisms for reviewing collected information and making corrections
