The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all private and public places that are open to the general public.

The ADA requires state and local governments to make their services available to people with disabilities. For example, a city bus system must be accessible for people who use wheelchairs or other mobility devices. The ADA also requires employers with 15 or more employees to provide reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities who need them to do their jobs.
